MEMPHIS, Tenn — David Jones played a big part in two wins for the Memphis Tigers this week and was rewarded. Jones was named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week, Monday.
Memphis (7-2) won road games at VCU in overtime, 85-80 and at then No. 21 Texas A&M, 81-75. Jones averaged 26.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and three steals per game in the two contests.
Jones, a senior from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, scored 23 points on 6-of-19 shooting, eight rebounds, and four steals in the win over VCU. He added a season high 29 points and seven rebounds to help beat the Aggies. He scored 21 of his 29 points in the first half and made a career high five threes.
Jones leads the AAC in scoring (20.1 ppg). He ranks second in three-pointers made (24) and is fourth in steals per game (2.4). He also leads in the conference in games scoring 20 or more points.
Memphis will face No. 13/11 Clemson in FedExForum on Saturday.
