MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Tigers senior forward David Jones was named an Associated Press All-American Honorable Mention, Tuesday. Jones led the Tigers in scoring, rebounding and steals on the way to a 22-10 record and a disappointing second round exit in the American Athletic Conference Tournament.
Jones averaged 21.8 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game this season. He's the first player since Zion Williamson in 2018-2019 to average 21 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
Jones, the Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native led the AAC in scoring. It was the second straight season a Tiger topped the conference scoring list after Kendric Davis also did it in 2022-23. He was also second in steals and sixth in rebounding.
The senior will have one more year of eligibility left, but will also test the waters of the NBA Draft after his best college season. After the Tigers lost in the AAC Tournament to Wichita State, Jones said a return to Memphis was "possible."
"Everything is possible, that's all I can say," Jones said. "I like Penny as a head coach so we're going to see."
"I’ll say 60/40, 70/30 us,” Hardaway said previously about the possibility of Jones returning. “But I’ll never hold anyone back. If his destiny is to be a lottery pick or a first-rounder or a high second-rounder, man, I’m gonna applaud that. Because that’s what we want for our guys.”
