MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Former Memphis Tiger Carl Cherenfant is officially off the market as he commits to the New Mexico State Aggies.
The news was first reported by CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein and ABC24 later confirmed it via a source.
The 6-5 guard played in 18 games as a freshman for the Tigers, averaging 0.6 points and 0.9 rebounds in 4.4 minutes per game.
Cherenfant entered the transfer portal in early April and was one of five Tigers from the 2023-24 squad that chose to leave Memphis after a disappointing end to the season which saw them bow out of the AAC Tournament in the second round and miss out on the NCAA Tournament to finish 22-10 on the season.
Ashton Hardaway transferred to Saint Mary's, Jonathan Pierre committed to Belmont, Jayhlon Young transferred to Vermont and Jaykwon Walton decided to remain in the 2024 NBA Draft instead of taking his talents to a new school.
Meanwhile David Jones didn't enter the portal but instead chose to keep his name in the draft, six other players from last year exhausted their college eligibility.
Nicholas Jourdain is the only remaining scholarship player from last year's roster who decided to, or was still eligible to play for the Tigers this season.
Penny Hardaway has brought in seven of his own transfer players (PJ Haggerty, Tyrese Hunter, Dain Dainja, Baraka Okojie, Tyreek Smith, Moussa Cisse and Colby Rogers), signed a freshman guard, Jared Harris and Portuguese U20 International, Daviel Vieira-Tuck.
Every player, bar Vieira-Tuck who is in Portugal, is currently on campus participating in Summer workouts which began on June 1.
Hardaway still has three more scholarships to play with for the 2024-25 season.
