MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A former Tennessee Vol is trading Rocky Top for the Bluff City. Linebacker Elijah Herring committed to the Memphis Tigers, he announced on social media Friday.
Herring was dominant for the Vols in 2023. As a sophomore, he led Tennessee in total tackles (80) and assisted tackles (49). He added four tackles for loss, half a sack and a pass break up.
Herring is the 23rd player to transfer to the Tigers since the season ended in December. According to Rivals.com, Herring is a four-star transfer and the 16th best transfer in this year's class. He gives Memphis the 14th best transfer class.
Herring joins a linebacker room that includes All-AAC First Team member Chandler Harris and new additions Javante Mackey, Jayden Flaker and Matt Hudson. Herring will be a good replacement for Geoffrey Cantin-Arku, who was selected in the first round of the Canadian Football League Draft.
