Henigan, Silverfield collect TSWA yearly awards

The Tennessee Sports Writers Association honored the pair after a 10-3 season including a AutoZone Liberty Bowl win

TENNESSEE, USA — The Tennessee Sports Writers Association honored Memphis football head coach Ryan Silverfield as Coach of the Year and Tigers quarterback Seth Henigan as Player of the Year.

The Memphis Tigers went 10-3 this season under Silverfield and won the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, 36-26. It was just the fifth time in program history that the program won 10 games. 

Silverfield, in his fourth season, collected his second TSWA Coach of the Year accolade. He also won the award in 2020. 

Henigan, becomes the fourth Tigers player to be named TSWA Player of the Year, and first since Brady White in 2020. The junior out of Denton, Texas threw for 3,883 yards and 32 touchdowns and added five rushing touchdowns. He was named All-AAC Second Team. 

Henigan set numerous program records in 2023. He became the single season leader in completions (318) and attempts (476). He is also the all-time career leader in completions (838) and passing yards (10,773).

In the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, Henigan threw for 364 yards and scored five total touchdowns. It was the fourth consecutive bowl win for the Tigers.
