Mario Anderson leads the way to Tigers win over Troy, 38-17

Anderson tallied 148 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns.

MEMPHIS, Tenn — Memphis (2-0) sidestepped the trap game on the way to their second straight victory. The Tigers beat Troy (1-1) 38-17, Saturday.

The run game was a concern coming into the week after Memphis ran for just 59 yards and lost runningback Sutton Smith in week one. There was no such concern after the game. Memphis rushed for 211 yards, anchored by Mario Anderson. The South Carolina transfer ran for 125 yards on 17 carries and two scores. He also caught four passes for 59 yards. 

Greg Desrosiers filled the secondary runningback role with 59 yards on 8 carries and  Quarterback Seth Henigan went 20/32 for 161 yards and one touchdown.

The Tigers defense proved stout, allowing just 251 yards and forcing a turnover for the second week in a row. Elijah Herring showed why the Tigers brought in him from the transfer portal. The junior tallied 8 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack and a fumble recovery. 

Memphis will prepare for a week three trip to Tallahassee, Florida to face Florida State.
