Memphis and Ole Miss both ranked in Coaches Poll, Tigers miss out on AP Top 25

For the first time since 2020 the Memphis Tigers are ranked. Meanwhile the Ole Miss Rebels are in the Top 5 for the first time since 2015.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Both the Memphis Tigers and Ole Miss Rebels have started the season 2-0 and they're reaping the benefits in the polls.

For the first time since 2020 the Tigers are ranked. In the US LBM Coaches Poll released Sunday afternoon the Tigers came in at No. 25. The 85 votes shoots Memphis up three spots from last week and has them as the only Group of 5 team in the rankings.

The same however can't be said for the AP Top 25 Poll. The Tigers received just 38 votes and therefore stay at No. 30 in the rankings. They are the third highest Group of 5 team in the poll, behind Northern Illinois (No. 25 after beating Notre Dame) and Boise State (No. 27 after receiving 77 votes).

Memphis started the season with a 40-0 win over North Alabama and followed it up on Saturday with a 38-17 win over Troy.

The Tigers have a prime chance to further cement their rankings next Saturday at 11 a.m. CT when they play against Florida State who are now unranked after starting the season 0-2.

Meanwhile the Rebels are ranked at No. 5 in both the Coaches Poll and the AP. It's the highest ranking for the program since reaching No. 3 in 2015.

Ole Miss started the season with two blowout wins. They knocked off Furman 76-0 in Week 1 and beat MTSU 52-3 in Week 2. Off the back of those wins the Rebels now rank first for total offense in the country.

Ole Miss will look to move to 3-0 on the season when they play at Wake Forest on Saturday at 5.30 p.m. CT.
