MEMPHIS, Tenn. — University of Memphis Deputy Athletic Director Jeff Crane is leaving the university for a new role at the University of South Carolina.

Crane will serve as the senior deputy director of athletics for the Gamecocks.

University of Memphis President Bill Hardgrave said he wished Crane well in his new role.

"I want to thank Jeff for his leadership and dedication to the University of Memphis over the last five years," Hardgrave said. "He has been a tremendous asset to Tiger athletics."

Crane had recently been serving as interim athletic director for the university while they were searching for the replacement of also recently departed Laird Veatch.

Senior vice president of intercollegiate athletics Ed Scott, who replaced Veatch, said that he appreciated all that Crane had done and sent assurances to Tigers fans that a plan is in place to make sure all projects continue moving forward.

Crane had previously worked at the University of South Carolina.
