Memphis parts ways with assistant Andy Borman

Borman spent two years on Penny Hardaway's staff

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis basketball will part ways with assistant coach Andy Borman, a team spokesman confirmed to ABC24, Tuesday.

Borman spent the last two seasons on Penny Hardaway's coaching staff and helped the team to an American Athletic Conference Championship in 2022-2023 and a trip to the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

Borman previously was the Executive Director of the New York Renaissanace on the Nike EYBL AAU circuit. Before then, he was Director of Player Development at Cal (2004-05) and the Director of Basketball Operations at San Jose State (2005-06).

The former assistant played his college basketball at Duke, where he played under his uncle and legendary head coach Mike Krzyzewski. His teams won a national championship in 2001 and went to the Final Four in 2004.

Earlier in May, it was discovered that Hardaway is bringing on Andre Turner, a former Memphis Tiger, as part of his coach staff. The nature of Turner's role is still to be determined.

The Tigers have brought in seven transfer players to join returning scholarship player Nicholas Jourdain and incoming freshman Jared Harris. They are still awaiting the decision of David Jones, who has until May 29 to decide if he will stay in the NBA Draft or return to Memphis for another year of college basketball.

A university spokesman confirmed that all of the scholarship players are on campus, but team activities have not yet begun.

Memphis finished the 2023-24 campaign, 22-10 and were beaten in the second round of the AAC Tournament with Borman on staff.
