Memphis Tigers head football coach Ryan Silverfield finalizes new 5-year contract

The contract will keep Silverfield in Memphis until 2028, according to Tigers Athletics.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — University of Memphis Tigers head football coach Ryan Silverfield has agreed to a new five-year contract with the team, keeping him in Memphis until 2028, according to Tigers Athletics.

The University said Silverfield’s total compensation is as follow:

  • $2.2 million for the 2024 season
  • $2.25 million for the 2025 season
  • $2.5 million for the 2026 season
  • $2.6 million for the 2027 season
  • $2.7 million for the 2028 season

The U of M said Silverfield has a base salary of $200,00 per year, with the remaining as “non-salary compensation divided equally between radio and television appearance availability and public relations, public service and public speaking appearance availability.” He also earns incentives and bonuses through the team’s performance.

“We are extremely excited to make this commitment to Coach Silverfield to keep him leading our football program into the future,” University of Memphis Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Laird Veatch said. “Coach Silverfield guided the team to one of the best seasons in program history in 2023 and we believe he’s laid the foundation to help Memphis ascend even higher in the expanded College Football Playoff era.”

“It’s an honor and a privilege to be the head football coach at the University of Memphis,” Silverfield remarked. “I am excited and appreciative of the commitment to continue moving forward with the progress of our football program.”

Silverfield is beginning his ninth season at Memphis and fifth as head coach in 2024.

Last year, he led the Tigers to a 10-3 season, including a win in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl over Iowa State. The U of M said the 10-win season is just the fifth in program history.

He is also the only head coach in program history with four bowl titles in his first four seasons, the most bowl titles for any head coach in school history.

Silverfield was named the 2023 and 2020 Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) Coach of the Year, the first Tigers head coach to earn the honor twice.
