Memphis Tigers women's soccer sweeps AAC's award season

MEMPHIS, Tenn — The University of Memphis women's soccer team racked up several season awards Monday, sweeping the individual award season honors and placing nine members on American Athletic Conference All-Conference teams.

The Tigers finished the season 15-1 and a perfect 9-0 in conference play earning first place in the conference tournament. Head Coach Brooks Monaghan and his staff were named Coaching Staff of the Year.

In total Memphis collected six of the seven total honors. 

Mya Jones was a unanimous choice for Offensive Player of the Year. The fifth-year senior has 28 total points, nine goals and 10 assists.

Senior Haylee Spray was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year, helping Memphis to 12 shutouts this year. Goalkeeper Kaylie Bierman anchored the defense with a 13-1 record, seven shutouts and 30 saves. Bierman boasts a NCAA best, 0.313 goals-against average.

Junior midfielder Momo Nakao was named the Midfielder of the Year with a five goal, four assist performance this season. Freshman striker Anna Hauer is the league's Co-Rookie of the Year. She finished with seven goals and three assists and was named a unanimous selection to the All-AAC Second Team.

Jones, Spray, Bierman, Nakao, Saorla Miller and Grace Stordy were all named All-AAC First Team selections. The six selections to the first team is an AAC record. 

Hauer, Honoka Hamano and Finley Lavin were named All-AAC Rookie Team selections.

So far, it's the best season for the Tigers since 2011. They will look to defend their AAC Championship in the conference tournament beginning Tuesday morning against UAB.
