MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The #1 South Carolina Gamecocks looked to pick up where they left off after last season's championship, winning 106-63 over Memphis, in the inaugural Hoops for St. Jude Tip Off Classic.

The Gamecocks only trailed for 15 seconds before leading the rest of the way, flexing their size with 74 points in the painted area and outrebounding Memphis 58-25. Chloe Kitts scored 15 points and 13 rebounds, while freshman Joyce Edwards put up 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Memphis was led by newcomer and fifth year transfer Tilly Boler. She scored 16 points, including 3-of-8 from three point range and added two assists. Hannah Riddick (13) and Tanyuel Welch (12) also contributed double digit scoring efforts.

The Gamecocks made it difficult in just about every area for Memphis, but will be good tape for the Tigers as the matchup was just an exhibition. More than 8,700 tickets were sold for the event which also included the Memphis men's team facing North Carolina. All proceeds go to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
