MEMPHIS, Tenn. — It was a story of two halves for the Memphis Tigers. Despite a first half that saw them shoot 34 percent and down 10 points, the Tigers stormed back in the second half to beat Missouri 83-75.
Memphis (1-0) relied on a staple of Penny Hardaway's in that second half. The Tigers turned up the pressure and forced 11 second half Missouri turnovers. Memphis was led by PJ Haggerty, who scored 22 of his 25 points in the second half.
Tyrese Hunter added 14 points, three assists and two steals. Moussa Cisse, in his return to Memphis, also scored 14 points to go along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Missouri led Memphis 42-32 at halftime and held a 55-47 lead before a 9-0 Memphis run saw the Tigers take a 56-55 lead at the 10:34 mark. Memphis took the lead for good, 60-59 and outscored Mizzou 21-16 down the stretch despite five players fouling out in the ball game.
