MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Amid reports of another possible PAC-12 expansion, the University of Memphis said Monday it would remain with the American Athletic Conference (AAC).

Reports had placed the Memphis Tigers among the list of names the PAC-12 was considering adding.

The following statement was released by the University of Memphis:

“The landscape of college athletics has shifted dramatically in the past few years. With that, our focus has remained on ensuring our student-athletes are given the best possible environment to perform their sports and academics at the highest level. After considering other potential options, we have decided our current partnership with the American Athletic Conference is in the best interest of our student-athletes and the future of our University.”

The next round of possible PAC-12 expansion comes less than two weeks after the Pac-12 announced that Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State and Colorado State would join the conference in 2026. The Pac-12 Conference must add two more schools to legally remain a conference according to an NCAA rule.
