MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis native and Collierville High School alum is heading to Oxford. Davon Barnes committed to Ole Miss, he announced on social media Thursday.
Barnes entered his name into the transfer portal from Sam Houston State where he averaged 13.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting 39% from three-point range. Barnes scored 22 points when the Bearkats faced Ole Miss in November of 2023.
Barnes was reportedly a target of Penny Hardaway and the Memphis Tigers, having paid an on campus visit to Memphis.
Barnes was phenomenal as a senior at Collierville High School. He led the Dragons to the TSSAA Boys AAA state semifinals as a senior while averaging 18 points and seven rebounds per game.
Ole Miss is coming off a strong first year under head coach Chris Beard. The team went 20-12, their first 20 win season since 2018-2019.
