Memphis 901 FC secured a point in a challenging match against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC on Saturday night at AutoZone Park.
Colorado Springs struck early with a set-piece goal in the fifth minute, but Memphis responded with high pressure, eventually equalizing with a 38th-minute goal from Luiz Fernando.
A give-and-go between Fernando and Carson Vom Steeg allowed the Brazilian winger to deliver a left-footed strike from 12 yards out. The goal was Fernando's second of the season.
Memphis dominated play in the first half after the early concession, holding 63% of possession and forcing three saves on 13 shots. 901 FC recorded a season-high 27 shots in the match.
But the performance gave fans Deja vu from the games earlier this season, as the 901 peppered the Switchbacks goal in the second half but failed to find a match-winner.
Memphis midfielder Emerson Hyndman came the closest to breaking the deadlock midway through the second half. The center mid powered a threatening shot with his left foot from 18 yards but goalkeeper Christian Herrera made a fingertip save.
With four minutes remaining in regulation 901 FC threatened to score again. Fernando broke free on the right wing and fired a cross towards substitute Noe Meza but the forward saw his header loop wide of the net.
Memphis finished with 20 shots inside the box and 38 touches inside the penalty area. Switchbacks goalkeeper put in a man-of-the-match performance coming up with five saves.
901 FC sit sixth in the Western Conference with 17 points, eight points behind league leaders New Mexico United.
