MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Each year, you might notice that people begin to celebrate the holiday season earlier. You may see it on television, in stores, or perhaps even in your neighborhoods.
So, Local 24 News’ Nextdoor reporter Brittani Moncrease took the question to our neighbors. When should you put up holiday decorations?
Here’s the response.
Yes, it’s November and I already have my Christmas tree up. But I found out, I’m not the only one.
It seems our Nextdoor neighbors are tapping into the holiday spirit a little early this year too.
“Here we go,” said Clay Warling's granddaughter, who was ready to run, jump, and test out grandad’s Christmas invention.
It’s Warling’s Wonderland, designed and built by Clay.
"It's just the Christmas spirit. It will be my 30th year doing it,” said Clay Warling, a White Station resident.
He's been spending day after day tucked away in his workshop.
“I was sitting out here in my shop building snowflakes,” said Clay.
That is just the "frost" of it.
"We've got a Ferris wheel that rotates. It's got stuffed animals on the seats. I have a carousel,” said Clay.
With all clay’s preparation, it got us thinking. When should you begin putting up holiday decorations?
According to more than 1,200 of our holly jolly Nextdoor neighbors, 66% said after Thanksgiving.
However, 22% said right after Halloween, and the rest said not until December.
"They have to be turned on thanksgiving night. That's my thought," said Clay.
Our neighbor Bryson Lochemes and his family have theirs up now, which we found a lot of other neighbors doing the same mainly because of this year's scrooge, COVID.
"With this year the way it is, we've got to do something to spice up the world," said Clay. "We need something being locked up for nine months."
Guess that something may very well be an early dose of merry holiday cheer.
You have to do what's best for you.
