MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Verizon service is back in the Memphis area after a total service outage for the second time in two weeks.
According to DownDetector.com, reports of an outage began to come in around 3 a.m. Thursday morning. By 5 a.m., service was restored.
In a statement on Twitter, Verizon customer support said they were aware of the outage and that customers would be notified when service is restored.
During the outage, Verizon customers were unable to make calls, send texts, or browse the web unless they're on Wi-Fi. Users could still make calls to emergency services through Apple's 'SOS' feature on the iPhone.
This isn't the only recent Verizon outage that customers in Memphis have experienced. Less than two weeks ago, Verizon service was offline in the Memphis area for several hours.
The company says that outage was a result of a cut fiber optic line. There's no indication of what caused this latest outage.
