MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Westward lanes were blocked on I-40 near Covington Pike Friday night after two separate car crashes, according to TDOT and the Memphis Police Department (MPD). One of these crashes left two people dead, according to MPD.
As of about 11 p.m. on Friday night, the right shoulder lane was open in the area, according to TDOT.
MPD confirmed that officers responded at about 8 p.m. to a crash involving multiple vehicles near I-40 West near Covington Pike and that one person was found to be dead on the scene.
MPD later confirmed that a second person died as well.
Officers also responded to a two-vehicle crash in this same area about 15 minutes after the first crash. One young person was taken to Le Bonheur in critical condition after this incident, according to MPD.
Both incidents are ongoing crash investigations, according to MPD. ABC24 will update this article as new information becomes available.
