MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Town of Collierville said repaving of a stretch of Poplar Ave. will begin this spring after delays for a water line replacement.
2.5 miles of Poplar Ave. from just west of Collierville-Arlington to Poplar View Parkway will be repaved with 5700 tons of asphalt, and the traffic signal at Byhalia and Poplar will be repaired.
Town officials said a water line replacement under the road which began in September 2020 was completed in 2022, which led to delays for the repaving project.
Poplar Ave. is a state highway, and town leaders said the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) will pay the $2.2 million for the paving.
Here’s what Collierville leaders said drivers can expect (pending weather and other scheduling conflicts):
- First week of March – Placement of traffic control. Workers will keep one lane of Poplar open for the duration of the project.
- Mid-March through the first week of May – Rebuilding of ADA (American Disabilities Act) ramps.
- Mid-May through the end of the month – Patching of potholes and other defective spots.
- June 1-30th – Milling of existing surface and installation of new asphalt including temporary striping.
- First two weeks of July – Permanent striping.
- Late July – Pavement markers and reflectors.
The work is expected to be completed by July 31, 2024.
