MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) has opened the I-55 bridge back up this weekend ahead of scheduled construction.
TDOT originally said the Interstate 55 bridge between West Memphis and Memphis would close at 5 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3 through 6 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2024.
By Saturday night, TDOT officials said the bridge was back open — ahead of expected rainy conditions.
TDOT had said this was a full closure, allowing crews to continue construction on the I-55 and Crump interchange, make repairs to the bridge and remove overhead sign structures.
Here’s a look at what the closures were:
- I-55 SB was closed at Bridgeport Road in Arkansas
- I-55 NB was closed at South Parkway in Tennessee (Local traffic was allowed to continue to the McLemore exit)
- I-55 SB ramp was closed in Tennessee
- Crump Boulevard WB was closed in Tennessee
