MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A person is dead following a crash on I-40 near Appling Road that blocked westbound traffic for hours early Monday morning.
Officers with the Memphis Police Department responded to the crash Monday, Oct. 14, around 12:30 a.m.
Investigators said a vehicle had been heading west on I-40 when it rammed into an unoccupied vehicle. Before the crash, the owner of the unoccupied vehicle had left the car to check on damage from a previous crash. The person was then hit by the impact caused from the following crash, leading to the person's death.
All westbound lanes in the area were closed, but opened shortly before 6 a.m.
A crash investigation is underway.
