MEMPHIS, Tenn. — As the winter weather continues in the Memphis area, anyone planning to travel by plane should still be sure to check their flights before heading to the airport.
Memphis
Memphis International Airport is open, and flights are arriving and departing. MEM officials said crews have worked 24 hours a day to keep runways clear and safe. Crews will be onsite early Thursday to pretreat surfaces ahead of the next round of winter weather.
Even though MEM is open, winter weather is also impacting other airports across the country, which is leading to delays and cancelations. MEM officials suggest checking directly with the airline for the latest scheduling before heading to the airport. Flight status can also be found here.
For anyone who is flying, airport leaders suggest arriving at least two hours before the scheduled departure time.
MEM officials said 44 vehicles are dedicated to snow and ice removal, and a majority of the Airport Authority’s 300 workers are involved in the winter weather operations.
Olive Branch
As of Wednesday, Olive Branch airport was only open for helicopter traffic, and closed to fixed-wing traffic. Officials there said runways and taxiways are covered with “medium to poor braking action.” Find the latest updates for KOLV at NOTAM HERE.
