2024 is halfway over, Memphis has already recorded one of its hottest years

Winter and Spring were very warm this year, the Summer could break that trend.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — After a hot stretch of days in the Mid-South we are switching over to a somewhat cooler and stormy pattern, This shifts the trend of overall warmer weather that we have been seeing.

July 2nd marks the halfway point of the year so it is the perfect time to take a look at our weather and see how things stack compared to other years here in Memphis and the Mid-South.

Looking at the numbers,  the temperatures have been much warmer than average this year. If trends continue, Memphis is on its way for the 6th hottest year on record. Precipitation has been pretty close to average this year with Memphis only being slightly below average.

The Summer has been somewhat tame. This might seem contradictory to the fact that we have seen more 95 degree days compared to normal. The Winter and Spring were multiple degrees above normal while the Summer has been pretty close to average.

Thanks to rainfall in the area and flooding in the Northern Mississippi, the Mississippi River near Memphis is looking quite different from years past.  This time last year, the river was in negative stage while this year it is almost 20 feet higher. This is a great sign heading into the end of Summer which begins our driest part of the year.

If we look at what we can expect going ahead, all signs are pointing toward a constant weather pattern ahead. That means overall, we can expect,  more stormy weather and below averages highs.
