DESOTO COUNTY, Miss — An EF-2 tornado with winds of 130 mph touched down Friday night in Tunica and DeSoto Counties, damaging several homes, according to the National Weather Service.
This storm was just one of several that developed as part of a major severe weather outbreak that produced at least four tornadoes and killed nearly 20 people across the Mid-South on Friday.
This particular storm formed in Arkansas where storm spotters reported a tornado touchdown near the community of Lexa. The storm then continued into Mississippi and northern Tunica County, producing another tornado north of the Tunica airport.
That tornado strengthened and continued into DeSoto County. In a storm survey, National Weather Service crews found several trees with trunks snapped and homes with collapsed walls on the north side of Arkabutla Lake near Eudora.
The tornado continued to near Star Landing Rd. and Robinson Rd., before lifting just north of Nesbit.
A Tornado Warning was in effect for the area at the time. No injuries were reported from this particular tornado.
