Hot, humid weather expected as FedEx St. Jude Championship tees off

Highs will be in the mid 90s with a heat index over 100° through the championship.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The FedEx St. Jude Championship tees off this week at TPC Southwind in Memphis, and typical August weather can be expected.

A nearby area of high pressure will keep most of the championship dry, but it'll also bring in more hot and humid weather, especially for Thursday and Friday.

Wednesday

There's a chance of some off-and-on thunderstorms on Wednesday, especially before noon. These storms won't happen everywhere, but where they do develop, they could be heavy with thunder and lightning. Highs will be around 90 degrees with a mix of sun and clouds. Winds will be out of the east at 5 mph.

Thursday

Rain chances will decrease Thursday with mostly dry weather expected. It'll get much hotter and more humid with afternoon highs in the mid 90s and a heat index over 105. Be sure to drink plenty of water and take breaks in the shade. Winds will be around 5 mph out of the southeast, becoming more southerly by the afternoon.

Friday

Expect more hot and humid weather on Friday with highs in the mid and upper 90s and a heat index over 105. Again, stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade or air conditioning. There is a slight chance of a quick pop-up storm Friday afternoon, but it'll be mostly dry. Winds will be out of the southwest in the morning, becoming more westerly in the afternoon, with gusts as high as 15 mph.

Saturday

It won't be quite as humid on Saturday, but it'll still be hot with a heat index near 100. We'll see a mix of sun and clouds with mostly dry weather through the day. Winds will be out of the west in the morning, becoming more northwesterly in the afternoon. Gusts could be as high as 15 mph.

Sunday

It'll be warm on Sunday with highs in the low 90s under a mix of sun and clouds. Winds will be out of the north-northwest through the day with gusts up to 15 mph. Rain chances are minimal, but a sprinkle can't be ruled out.
