MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The town of Mason, Tennessee is now going on six days without water from the winter weather.
The town's fire chief said officials still can't pinpoint the exact cause of the issue.
Town officials said they first noticed they lost water pressure early Tuesday, Jan. 16, but it wasn't until Wednesday that residents were notified they'd be without water.
Town of Mason Alderwoman Celia Chastain said she wants infrastructure upgrades to be a priority for the community close to Ford's Blue Oval City site.
"Well, we're just like every other town with aging infrastructure. It's coming apart; this is harsh weather, and the cold, the warm, the cold, the warm - it's not good on any pipe," said Chastain.
Mason officials said the Blue Oval City team donated more than 100 cases of drinking water to the town, and the fire department is working on getting even more for their elderly and sick residents.
Former Vice Mayor Virginia Rivers said it's yet another example of the mega site being good neighbors.
"'Hey, let's do something to help them.' They could've not, but they did, and that shows when a city or a town is in a disastrous situation, they're willing to step in and do what they can," Rivers said.
The Mason Fire Department has started distributing water to the public. On Monday, Jan. 22 they said they will do so at 4 p.m. They stressed that this will be a "multi-day" event and that there is no current time table for how long it will take for water services to be fully restored to the community.
