Memphians prepare for snow, icy road conditions in Cordova

T-DOT has already pre-treated bridges and overpasses that tend to freeze up more often.

MEMPHIS, Tennessee — It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, in fact about an inch thick so far Thursday night.

On North Germantown Parkway multiple crashes occurred.

The wind picked up to about 20 miles per hour.

If you have to get on the roads, here are a few things to remember:

Take it slow.

Leave plenty of room between you and other drivers.

Don't use cruise control.

Crews throughout the Mid-South are prepared to treat roads and bridges if they freeze. Particularly as black ice poses a threat to drivers.

T-DOT has already pre-treated bridges and overpasses that tend to freeze up more often.

Our 24 news crews spotted shoppers at nearby grocery stores and filling up at gas stations too.

"I’m just willing to stay in, in my warm home,” said Leslie Williams. “Not going outside. I've already filled my gas tank up just in case."

I heard tomorrow the road's supposed to be pretty icy,” said Jalen Gunter, who just arrived back home for the holidays from D.C. “But I'll just have to see tomorrow. I also have not done my Christmas shopping so I don't know how that's going to work but we'll figure it out."

Authorities are alerting people under an Inclement Weather Crash Policy, if you do get in a crash with no injuries or alcohol involved exchange information with the other driver and find a time to meet at a police station.

If you don't have to get out - it's best to stay inside.
