MEMPHIS, Tenn. — October is usually one of the drier months of the year in Memphis and the Mid-South, but this month could end up as one of the driest on record.

The last time Memphis saw a drop of rain was on September 29, meaning it has now been 24 days without rain in the city.

With no solid signs of rain in the forecast for the next seven days, there is a decent chance that October could come and go without a single drop of rain in Memphis.

Memphis did come close to a completely dry October once before, back in 1963. However, the city did record a trace of rainfall on the 24th and 31st of October that year.

A trace indicates rain did fall, although it was not enough to officially measure in the rain gauge.

Memphis has yet to see even a trace of rain this October, meaning this month could be the first time ever that there has not been a single drop of rain in the city during the month of October.

The longest dry stretch on record in Memphis was a whopping 41 days in the summer of 1934.

If Memphis does manage to stay totally dry through the end of the month, our current dry stretch would rank in the top 10 longest stretches of dry weather in Memphis.

Even with this latest dry spell, Memphis is technically not included in a drought zone right now. That's thanks in part to the large amount of rainfall the area received last month from the remnants of Hurricane Francine and Helene, totaling nearly 10 inches.
