MEMPHIS, Tenn. — After a nearly totally dry October, Mother Nature has some tricks up her sleeve just in time for Halloween with a batch of rain and storms expected in the Memphis area today.
An approaching cold front will bring in showers and a few thunderstorms through the day today. Rain and storms will begin in East Arkansas by 9 a.m., and those storms will cross the river into the Memphis area around lunchtime. Showers and storms will continue to move across North Mississippi and West Tennessee through the early afternoon hours.
A few storms could be heavier with thunder and wind gusts up to 50 mph, especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. today.
Trick-or-treating forecast
While the heaviest of the rain and storm activity will clear out by 5 p.m., a few off-and-on light showers will remain possible this evening and into tonight.
For many areas, trick-or-treating weather will be mostly dry with temperatures in the 60s and 70s, but don't be surprised if some drizzle or a quick shower pops up in your neighborhood after sunset.
So far in October, Memphis has only seen rain one day this month, and that was on October 26. While the Mid-South averages nearly four inches of rain in October, Memphis International Airport has only picked up 0.2 inches of rain so far this month.
