School districts closing or dismissing early as Francine brings heavy rain, high winds to the Mid-South

The remnants of Hurricane Francine will bring high wind and heavy rain to the Mid-South today.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Several Mid-South school districts are cancelling class or dismissing early due to the threat of heavy rain and wind from Hurricane Francine.

  • Memphis-Shelby County Schools - dismissing early

    • School bell time: 7:15 a.m. - Dismissal: 11:30 a.m.
    • School bell time: 8:15 a.m. - Dismissal: 12:30 p.m.
    • School bell time: 9:15 a.m. - Dismissal: 1:30 p.m.
      • Students will be served lunch before dismissal. 
      • Y-Care and all after school activities, sports, and meetings are canceled today. 
  • Alcorn County Schools - Closed Today

  • Benton County Schools - Closed Today

  • Collierville Schools - dismissing early

    • High School - 10:45 a.m.
    • Middle Schools - 11:30 a.m.
    • Elementary Schools - 12:15 p.m.
    • After school activity updates:
      • The CHS vs. Douglass High School football game scheduled for tonight has been rescheduled for 4 p.m. Friday. 
      • The CHS girls’ soccer match at University School of Jackson has been canceled.
      • The WCMS girls’ soccer match against Elmore Park has also been canceled. 
      • The CHS volleyball match at Houston High School will be played as scheduled.
      • The Draco Playhouse production of Madagascar will go on as scheduled at the Pickler Auditorium at Collierville High School. If you bought tickets for tonight’s performance and would like to switch for another show, please contact the Draco Playhouse at dracoplayhouse@colliervilleschools.org

  • Schools of Perea - dismissing early

    • Schools of Perea is dismissing at noon.

  • Southwest Tennessee Community College - Virtual classes

    • Classes are pivoting to virtual work and learning today

The biggest threat from Francine in the Memphis area will likely be the heavy rain. Rain will begin to pick up late Wednesday night after 9 p.m. and continue through much of the day Thursday and Thursday night. Showers are also possible into portions of Friday as well. In total, many neighborhoods will pick up 2 to 4 inches of rain, but some areas could see up to 5 or 6 inches.
