MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Winter weather arrived in Memphis and the Mid-South Jan. 14, and many areas ended up seeing several inches of snow.
Ice then came Thursday, Jan. 18. Since then, while side streets and shaded areas could still have some ice, major roads are beginning to improve.
The following is a list of school systems and the information regarding whether or not they will be closing. NOTE: This may not be a complete list. We are updating throughout the day as more schools announce they're closing. If you don't see your school or district on this list, check back later.
Memphis-Shelby County Schools - open Wednesday
The majority of Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) schools and office buildings reopened Tuesday, Jan. 23.
The following schools reopened on Tuesday, Jan. 23:
- Dunbar ES
- E.E. Jeter ES
- Crump ES
- Oak Forest ES
- Fox Meadows ES
- Georgian Hills MS
- Kirby HS
- Carver HS
MSCS said the water at Hamilton K-8 was not at an operable level to open on Tuesday. They later announced the school was fit to reopen Wednesday.
Kirby High School was dismissed early on Tuesday due to burst pipes. However, the school will reopen as scheduled on Wednesday.
University of Memphis - Virtual learning until Monday, Jan. 29
All University of Memphis Shelby County locations will resume normal operations Wednesday, Jan. 24, while course instruction will remain online/remote through Friday, Jan. 26. In-person instruction will resume Monday, Jan. 29.
The University of Memphis Lambuth Campus and the Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law are back to normal operations, including in-person class instruction, according to the university.
Lafayette County School District - Closed Wednesday
Forrest City School District - Delayed opening Tuesday
