Weather Impact: Heavy rain causing flash flooding in the Memphis metro

Some areas have picked up 2-3" of rain in the last 6 hours, leading to flooding on some roadways.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Heavy rain has led to flash flooding in parts of the Memphis metro area, and ABC24 has declared a Weather Impact Day.

While it isn't raining everywhere in the Mid-South, areas that have seen downpours have received up to 3" of rain over the last 6 hours.

Be on the lookout for ponding or flooding on roadways, especially in areas with poor drainage.

When's the impact?

A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for parts of the Memphis metro until 1:30 p.m. today. Other areas that see heavy downpours could also see brief flooding this afternoon.

How to prepare for the impact?

Be cautious as you drive on roadways that may have ponding water. If you see a roadway that's completely covered, remember to turn around, don't drown.
