MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Grizzlies first-round pick and former college superstar Zach Edey will sign autographs alongside fellow Grizzlies draftee Jaylen Wells Wednesday at AutoZone Park as the Memphis Redbirds kick off their July 4 celebration.
The Redbirds announced Edey, the ninth overall pick, and Wells, the 39th pick, will be at the main concourse at AutoZone Park from 5:15 p.m. to 5:45 p.m., signing autographs for fans. The 7-foot-4 center won every major National Player of the Year award in his final two seasons at Purdue.
Edey was a college superstar for Purdue University, averaging nearly 24 points per game over his final two seasons and more than 12 rebounds per game. He led the Boilermakers to the NCAA men's basketball National Championship Game in March, ultimately losing to the University of Connecticut.
Wells following his autograph session, will throw out the ceremonial first pitch for the Redbirds. He posted a 41.7% shooting percentage from 3-point range last season at Washington State. Prior to his time as a Cougar, Wells was named 2022-2023 California Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Year in his sophomore season at Division II Sonoma State.
The Redbirds are hosting their Red, White and Boom fireworks night Wednesday to celebrate July 4. They host the Nashville Sound at 6 p.m.
