MASON, Tenn. — The town of Mason, Tennessee is now going on six days without water from the winter weather.
Town officials said they first noticed they lost water pressure early Tuesday, Jan. 16, but it wasn't until Wednesday that residents were notified they'd be without water.
“I could scream, but it wouldn’t help none," longtime Mason resident Lonnetta Humphrey said.
The Mason Fire Department, along with other volunteers, gave out cases of water to residents on Monday afternoon.
"If they had fixed it when they were supposed to fix it, we wouldn’t have all these problems. I ain’t going to say we wouldn’t have any. But we wouldn’t have all of them," Humphrey said.
After the water giveaway - which will be a multi-day event - Charles Jenkins, the Mason fire chief said there is no current timetable on how long it will be before water services will be fully restored to all customers. Chief Jenkins asked residents to take all necessary steps and arrangements to prepare for this and have patience.
"We understand that some of the frustrations with our water system have been primarily based on historical factors; this is not the first outage, and it probably will not be the last in the future," Jenkins said. "But at the same time, we are also dealing with the winter weather the same as any other utility district in our area that has been hit significantly. So, we are asking for everyone to be patient.”
