William Spearman was indicted on two counts of reckless aggravated assault in the August shooting.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations (TBI) is investigating after a woman was shot by a Munford Police officer after a chase into Covington early Monday morning.

A Munford Police officer has been indicted on charges for shooting a woman following a police chase in August, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The TBI said a Tipton County Grand Jury indicted William Spearman on Nov., 5, charging him with two counts of reckless aggravated assault. He turned himself in and was booked, then released on bond.

The TBI said, at the request of District Attorney General Mark Davidson, Special Agents investigated the shooting which happened about 2:15 a.m. on Aug. 19, 2024.

The TBI said Munford Police officers had tried to stop a driver for a traffic stop about 2 a.m., but the driver took off, leading to a chase. They said the chase continued along Highway 51 into Covington, where stop sticks were used.

The TBI said when the woman who was driving stopped, a Munford officer approached and fired a shot, hitting the woman. She was taken to the hospital and has since been released. No officers were injured.
