MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said two students are charged, each accused in separate incidents at their schools.

The SCSO said a 16-year-old Southwind High School student was detained and charged with bringing fireworks and ammunition to school Friday morning.

Investigators said a 13-year-old Highland Oaks Middle School student was detained and charged for bringing an airsoft pistol to school.

Both students were taken to the Youth Justice and Education Center, said the sheriff’s office.

“This type of behavior will not be tolerated, and we are committed to ensuring the safety of our community,” said Sheriff Floyd Bonner in a statement on social media. “I'm asking parents to have an immediate conversation with their children about the seriousness of this foolish behavior.”

This all comes after reported threats at Memphis-area schools this week. MSCS Superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins said Thursday that five people had been arrested locally, and Sheriff Bonner said sixth person - a Nashville teen - was charged for threats at Southwind High Wednesday morning.
