Video shows thieves stealing from UPS truck as MPD searches for suspects

The video from an ABC24 viewer shows thieves targeting a UPS truck on Appling Tuesday, not long after another UPS truck was burglarized on Summer Ave.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The Memphis Police Department is now investigating at least two thefts from delivery trucks in the city Tuesday. An ABC24 viewer provided video of one of the thefts.

MPD officers responded to one theft about 4:30 p.m. Jan. 2, 2024,  in the 4700 block of Summer Ave. Investigators said three men wearing all-black clothes took packages from a UPS truck. Police did not specify how many packages were stolen. Police said the suspects were last seen in a brown Nissan sedan headed westbound on Summer.

About 45 minutes later, MPD officers were called to the 2500 block of Appling Rd. Video from an ABC24 viewer shows thieves pulling behind a UPS truck in the parking lot. As the driver goes inside, the suspects then make their way into the truck, stealing several packages before taking off.

Investigators said they are still working to determine if the same suspects are responsible for both thefts, or if these are related to other recent thefts from delivery trucks.
