MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis isn't playing in March Madness for the first time since 2021, which means Tigers players are hitting the portal.
A source close to the program confirmed to ABC24 that backup point guard Jayhlon Young is the latest Tiger to do so.
The redshirt-junior was one of Memphis' strongest defenders and ball handlers. He appeared in 27 games and averaged 2.2 points and one rebound per game.
Young joins forward Jonathan Pierre in the portal.
Just because players enter the portal doesn't rule out the possibility of them returning to Memphis, but it certainly is more unlikely.
This offseason, it's no secret that keeping senior forward David Jones is imperative, and that becomes even more critical with both Young and Pierre seeing what else is out there.
The Tigers now, at most, will return four scholarship players.
The Tigers finished the season 22-10 and go bounced from the second round of the AAC Tournament.
