Tennessee Task Force 1 heads to Gulf Coast as area prepares for Hurricane Francine

The storm is expected to reach hurricane status on Tuesday before reaching landfall in Louisiana.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Mid-South first responders with Tennessee Task Force 1 are headed to the Gulf Coast as people there prepare for Hurricane Francine, which is expected to be a category 1 storm as it makes landfall in Louisiana.

The Memphis Fire Department said 45 first responders with Tennessee Task Force 1 deployed at 11 a.m. Tuesday to Baton Rouge, where they will stage their efforts.

The group consisting of firefighters, paramedics, doctors, engineers, and canine teams will be responsible for Urban Search and Rescue efforts. The team is made up by folks from Bartlett, Germantown, Collierville, Millington, Milan, and Memphis.

How long they will be there remains uncertain and will be determined by the impact of the storm.
