MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man is facing charges in the smash-and-grab burglary at a GameStop in southeast Memphis.
Toreka Reed, 29, has been charged with burglary of building and theft of property $2,500-10,000.
MPD officers responded to the burglary in the 7500 block of Winchester Rd. about 2:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024. They found the window of the front door broken.
Investigators said video showed at least eight suspects breaking into the store using a sledgehammer. They stole four Xbox consoles, worth about $499 each, a Playstation worth about $499, two Nintendo Switch consoles worth about $399 each, seven controllers worth about $75 each, and other items. Investigators said in total, the thieves got away with about $6,000 worth of merchandise.
Police said the suspects were in three vehicles: a gray GMC truck, a gray Dodge Charger, and a green Dodge Charger.
Police later found one of the suspects, Reed, with the help of a tracking device that had been placed inside one of the gaming consoles.
