MEMPHIS, Tenn — Memphis Mayor Paul Young and Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris have extended the State of Emergency declarations for both the city and county as residents deal with the aftermath of severe winter weather in the Mid-South.
Young said the state of emergency will remain in place for another week after the winter weather created icy road conditions and water issues throughout the city.
Harris said the severe winter weather conditions caused extensive damage throughout the county, including broken water mains which caused low pressure throughout the area. A precautionary boil water advisory remains in effect for all Memphis Light, Gas and Water customers.
Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris and Memphis Mayor Paul Young had each declared a State of Emergency on Monday, Jan. 15, after winter weather dropped about six inches of snow in the Mid-South.

I have declared a state of emergency in Shelby County because of recent storm events. Our community has received several inches of snow, creating many hazardous conditions. Please stay off the streets today, and if you can do it safely, please check in on your neighbors. pic.twitter.com/59BlVb4IQo
